Rules

  • Rules governing the game of hockey played on the ice and in all series will be laid down by Hockey Canada and Hockey Northwestern Ontario (H.N.O.) in their official rules book and all official handbooks. Exceptions to the Hockey Canada rules will be as outlined below.

  • Junior Players will be assigned to one of three age/skill levels based first by the year of birth and then by skill level so that new players can play with players of like skills.

  • A Junior game shall consist of three ten minute periods and incorporate a two minute buzzer which will indicate line changes.

  • If players in the Junior league are missing the following rules will apply:

    • second line players will be used to fill in for missing third line players

    • first line players will be used to fill in for missing second line players

    • the least skilled second line players will be used to fill in for missing first line players that qualify under section (d) but they are restricted to a defensive role only, no crossing the offensive blue line and no direct shots on net. Opposing coaches can select the players to be used.

    • first line players ranked 2 or less (in initial evaluations) will not be replaced by second line players. Coaches will submit updated rankings prior to the playoffs. This may result in teams playing with an uneven number of skaters.

    • in all cases of substitution no player can play more than seven shifts in a game.

    • if teams are both missing players on a line teams will play 4 on 4, or 3 on 3 unless rule D (d) is in effect

  • Senior players will be assigned to one of two age/skill levels based first by the year of birth and then by skill level so that new players can play with players of like skills.

  • A Senior game will consist of two nine minute periods and one twelve minute period incorporating a ninety second buzzer which will indicate line changes.

  • If players are missing in the Senior league, Junior third line players can be called up to fill in the senior first line and first line senior players can move up to the senior second line.
